Union Square's Alternative Clock

Often mistaken for a stock market tracker, the Union Square Metronome by artist duo Kristin Jones and Andrew Ginzel is in fact a public art installation that explores notions about time. From the LED screen which displays various time conventions and the slab of bedrock that reflects the earth’s massive geological history to the bronze cone representing perspective and the rotating sphere that tracks the cosmos, the Metronome encompasses practically every method of time-telling. This amalgam of measurements provides various perspectives on time, paradoxically including both regularity and ephemerality. (via CoolHunting)

3-Way Street

A School of Visual Arts thesis project by Ron Gabriel, named ‘3-Way Street’ tracks a camera at the Manhattan intersection of 28th Street and Park Avenue. As the artist puts it on his website, the point of the study is to show the “interconnected role in improving the safety and usability of our streets.” Mission very much accomplished.

The 'Limelight' Getting Another Makeover

We enjoy walking through the retail-ified nightclub and remembering (or trying to remember) the fun nights that were had there.  Now, it’s owner Jack Menashe plans to bring back some of the nighttime atmosphere with another transformation of the Limelight Marketplace.  He plans to change the indoor mall into a single “fashion-forward” department store not unlike Barneys.  Many of the tenants have been removed or absorbed, however, many food operators, including Grimaldi’s and Todd English’s recently opened restaurant, Cross Bar, will remain. Eataly's Big New Rooftop Beer Restaurant, Birreria

Don’t call it a beer garden! The management of Birreria insist that even though their handsome new rooftop oasis atop Eataly is producing three cask-conditioned ales right there on the 15th floor, the establishment is most certainly not a beer pub. When it opens on June 3rd there will be nine beers on tap, dozens of craft bottles, wine on tap and you can expect “a lot of meat” with a variety of house-made sausages and pork shoulder.
