We’ll admit it, we enjoy ice cream year round.  But it’s especially delicious when the temperatures are scorching - we don’t have to make excuses for how quickly we wolf it down!  We have our favorites (Van Leeuwen, Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, Louie G’s) but BrooklynBased has come up with a few suggestions that will expand our already heady ice cream knowledge and appreciation.

Brooklyn’s gigantic Atlantic Antic overtakes the avenue offering something for everyone. The ten live musical stages showcase free performances all day, featuring blues, rock, country, R&B, jazz, music for kids, drum circles, and belly-dancing. Kids and families enjoy plenty of pony rides, face painting, balloon sculptures, live storytelling, and more!

Local and national craftspeople, food vendors, and nonprofits intertwine with Atlantic Avenue’s trendy restaurants and boutiques. Best known for its eclectic delicacies, the Antic features an exciting array of foods from around the world, from baklava and funnel cake, to grilled sardines and pulled pork sandwiches. And who can forget street fair favorites like smoked sausage sandwiches, mozzarepas, and roasted corn.

Flavor Paper Factory and Retro-Futuristic Penthouse

Peer through the Flavor Paper building’s ground-level glass façade on Pacific Street in Cobble Hill, and you may see a pair of 52-foot-long vacuum tables churning out reams of brightly colored Mylar and pony-skin wallpaper. Where to Take the Parents to Eat in New York

Ah, the parent visit. If your parents are anything like mine, their favorite part about coming to New York—besides seeing their darling children, of course—is the restaurants.

But what my parents want from a restaurant is a little different than what I do. They appreciate great food—but only when that great food comes with good lighting, comfortable chairs, friendly servers, guaranteed seating, and as little ambient noise as possible. Finding those restaurants can be a challenge.
