Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series

The Met’s 2011 Summer Recital Series, presented in collaboration with City Parks Foundation, comes to the Brooklyn Bridge Park tonight, Wednesday, July 13th!  Bring your blanket and soak up the musical excellence as the sun sets over Lower Manhattan.

The FREE recital features three rising Met stars: soprano Angela Meade, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano, and tenor Atalla Ayan.  Piano accompaniment by Bradley Moore.

One day a year, for the past 32 years, nine of the country’s finest museums, all ones that call Fifth Avenue home, collectively open their doors for free to New Yorkers and visitors for a mile-long block party and visual art celebration. This traffic-free, music- and art-filled celebration fills the street and sidewalks of Fifth Avenue from 82nd to 105th street, the mile now officially designated as Museum Mile.

Free Wi-Fi Coming To 20 City Parks

Mayor Bloomberg and Randall Stephenson, the chairman and CEO of AT&T announced today that 20 parks throughout the five boroughs will all be getting free public Wi-Fi!  Three parks will start today: Battery Bosque, Kilmer Park and Thomas Jefferson Park.  The rest will come later this summer.  Check out the list put together by Gothamist.

Pillow Fight NYC 2011

Thousands of people are expected to descend on Union Square for NYC’s annual urban pillow fight on April 2, 2011. The event is FREE and open to all ages. Funky pillows and costumes are encouraged. This year, pillows will be collected and donated to a no-kill animal shelter to make bedding for rescued dogs and cats.
