Grey Gardens is the unbelievable but true story of Mrs. Edith Bouvier Beale (a.k.a. “Big Edie”) and her daughter “Little Edie” who were the aunt and first cousin of Jackie O. They lived in their own world in a decaying 28-room East Hampton mansion known as “Grey Gardens,” a place so far gone that the local authorities threatened to evict them for violating building and sanitation codes. Their world was unknown until David and Albert Maysles arrived with their camera and tape recorder and explored this powerful, bittersweet, eccentric and complex relationship between mother and daughter.
The IFC Center is featuring a special screening of Grey Gardens with filmmakers Albert Maysles and Muffie Meyer. If you haven’t seen this amazing film, now’s your chance!
