Plan Ahead: 44th Annual West Indian Carnival Festival

The ultimate silver lining to the end of summer is the 44th Annual West Indian-American Labor Day Parade, a time-honored treat for all of your senses that has the distinction of being New York City’s largest cultural festival, drawing some 3 million people. Bring a camera to capture the dazzling explosion of colorful costumes bouncing down the Eastern Parkway to the joyful sounds of reggae and calypso. The parade is free, but you’ll need some cash to partake in the feast of delicious island cuisine (think jerk chicken, curry goat, coconut bread, and callaloo) available from vendors all along the parade’s route. This tradition is one of Brooklyn’s most cherished, so be sure to come out and celebrate the end the summer of 2011 with an enthusiastic bang. (via BrooklynBased)

KARNEVAL "POP"SIKAL

Zum Schneider’s tradition, now in its eighth year, is to poke fun at themselves by rewriting the lyrics of popular songs “Zum Schneider” style, throwing beer, sausage and pretzl jokes into the mix, along with witty and sexy dance choreographies.

In between the acts, DJ’s take care of the party with the theme’s music and German Karneval/party hits. Costumes matching the pop music/Grammy Awards theme or Karneval in general are strongly encouraged.

The combination of German Karneval-party and live-cabaret makes this a one of a kind event in NYC.

A Carnival for the Kid in All of Us

New Yorkers don’t see many fairs or carnivals. We have seen them on TV and in movies but chances are most of us have never actually been to one. Unexpectedly, Bowlmore Lanes, a bowling alley near Union Square, decided to bring a carnival to city in classic New York style; by merging it with a night club.
