Over a century ago, New York wasn’t all concrete and skyscrapers. There was actual farm and wide green spaces and cemeteries. The Bowery Boys have given us a chilling thought: if you’re visiting one of New York’s many amazing parks and squares, most likely you’re standing on land that was formerly used as a cemetery or potter’s field (a cemetery for unknown persons). So much for the idea that New York City is home to cranky, crotchety, chronically unhappy people who are never, ever O.K. with anything. A new survey found that 84 percent are “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the city as a place to live. Only 4 percent said they were not at all satisfied.
The grins were almost as wide when they were asked if they liked the specific part of the city they call home: 82 percent said they were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with their neighborhood. Good addresses everywhere. (Read more via NY Times)

On Saturday, October 23rd, bring your costumed pooch to the Tompkins Square Dog Run and join the 20th Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade (with about 500 other dogs). The event will include a photo booth area that will act as a red carpet for the pups, prizes every 30 minutes, lots of treats and iPods for Best in Show and Raffle Winners!
